LASER H-A-R-P MIDI CONTROLLER

Control any MIDI device using laser strings

Receive a 20% discount on a new H-A-R-P when combined with a compatible laser.

The Laser H-A-R-P MIDI Controller turns your laser projector into a huge frameless full-color laser MIDI controller. This H-A-R-P has single or multi-color laser beams as "strings." You can play it like a real harp OR trigger outboard MIDI samplers, instruments, drum machines, visual software and another else you can dream of.

Block one or more laser beams to trigger MIDI messages sent to your synthesizer, sampler, effects rack, visual software, a sound card or by a "MIDI to USB" interface to your PC. Create ultra-unique, engaging and interactive shows with the Laser H-A-R-P MIDI Controller.

The Laser H-A-R-P MIDI Controller is very versatile: It can be programmed to trigger any type of audio or video event, any visual image, sound or music, special effect or even pyrotechnics.

Combined with laser control software like Quickshow, the laser harp can also be used to create completely individual laser effects and patterns.

Although laser software increases the versatility of your new H-A-R-P you can also perform right out of the box without software. Becomes the laser jockey nobody saw coming!

Advantages

  • More advanced capabilities than any other H-A-R-P on the market
  • With our Laser H-A-R-P MIDI Controller, you can choose between 8, 9, 10 or 12 laser beams.
  • Your laser beams can be all red, all green, all blue, green and red (in which case red beams designate high notes while all other notes are green like the black and white keys of the piano), or multicolored (Rainbow mode) if you are using an RGB laser.
  • You can switch the tone orientation (starting C tone) from left to right.
  • You can switch between three different MIDI banks (C3, C4 and C5 musical scales).
  • You can play polyphonic (means you can play several tones at the same time)
  • You can connect a Double Footswitch to your Controller and use it for Opening/Closing the Laser Harp and for quick switching between MIDI banks.
  • If the Footswitches are not available, all the functions can be controlled and operated on the H-A-R-P unit itself.
  • Function LEDs on the Laser Harp Controller box and sensor for easier indication and operation in dark areas
  • The option of controlling beam spread making the strings with little spacing between or a lot
  • Very small dimensions of both the Controller and Sensor boxes and the fact that the Sensor is a separate device make for an almost imperceptible installation on any platform (No big and clumsy boxes or frames on stage). Your laser harp controller box will be practically invisible!

Frequently asked questions:

  • What is a Laser H-A-R-P MIDI Controller?
The Laser H-A-R-P MIDI Controller is essentially a MIDI controller box with a sensor unit that will turn your ILDA laser projector into a powerful frameless full-color trigger area. NOTE: It DOES NOT come with a laser projector and it's important to choose the right type of laser for your performance. Talk to one of our specialists for help on selecting a compatible laser for your new H-A-R-P!

  • What comes in the package when I buy a H-A-R-P?
The package contains: MIDI Controller unit, Sensor unit, Power Supply Adapter, Sensor cable 3m, User manual, CE Declaration of Conformity, H-A-R-P Brochure

  • Are there any extra accessories I can purchase for my H-A-R-P?
There is a lengthy list of accessories that you can purchase: the laser, footswitches, white gloves, assorted cables, etc. Feel free to call or chat on-line with one of our H-A-R-P experts.

  • Why should I buy a H-A-R-P instead of some other MIDI controller or brand?
    a) Our H-A-R-P is a powerful device in a small package. It’s high durability metal case and very small dimensions make for an almost imperceptible installation on any platform. Your H-A-R-P controller box will be practically invisible on the stage. With many advanced functions such as interchangeable colors, number of beams, tone orientation, and others you will have the performance of your dreams with the most flexibility.
    b) Our controller is a true “Plug & Play” device. It's very simple to use and with no complicated adjustments or need for additional PC software - although optional laser control software does increase the capabilities of the H-A-R-P.
    c) The H-A-R-P was developed by laser professionals in cooperation with musicians. Most other "similar" H-A-R-Ps have been created by hobbyists. This has won an ILDA Fenning Award for Technical Achievement which makes this the only one in the world to receive such recognition from the leading laser companies association – ILDA (International Laser Display Association). Our H-A-R-P is a very reliable, high-quality road-worthy device.

  • Why should I buy a H-A-R-P instead of an "all-in-one" harp that includes a frame?
    a) In an "all-on-one", laser projector is already built-in and you are limited to only that laser that the manufacturer provided while with the H-A-R-P you can use one of the many compatible lasers according to your performance style or venue. Let us help you select the very best laser to match your future H-A-R-P performances!
    b) The price of buying an "all-in-one" (which includes a built-in laser projector) is the same as the price of buying a laser projector and a Harp Controller separately but you lose all the flexibility of choosing the laser that's right for your unique performance style and audience size. The benefit to buying them separately is that you get two devices – the H-A-R-P and a laser projector which you can use for logo projections and laser shows when it's not used in your H-A-R-P performances.

  • How do I connect the H-A-R-P to a laser projector?
The H-A-R-P connects to an ILDA-Compatible laser projector via ILDA cable (we can provide the cable as well). The H-A-R-P sends a signal to the laser projector to draw an array of laser beams in a fan arrangement. When you block a beam the sensor registers and sends a signal to controller, which in turn sends a MIDI signal, which corresponds to a pressed key on a musical keyboard. The MIDI signal can be sent to any synthesizer, visual software, other laser software, a sampler or a PC/Mac..

  • Does the H-A-R-P require that each beam has its own separate sensor? Do laser beams have to be pointed at some location or set into a certain position?
A frameless area means exactly that – the H-A-R-P has no frames i.e. the beams can be spread and directed to go anywhere. They are not required to hit sensor units. With the H-A-R-P there is only one sensor unit on the ground and it registers blocking of any and all beams.

  • What is an ILDA-Compatible laser projector and how to recognize one?
ILDA (International Laser Display Association) protocol is a standard protocol used for laser operation. It is used by all professional laser manufacturers. The H-A-R-P requires a laser projector with ILDA connectors. Be sure to speak to one of our laser experts to help select a laser that's suitable for the H-A-R-P and your unique playing conditions.

  • Which laser do you suggest to use with the H-A-R-P Controller?
    a) It can be of any color but your audience size will determine the required power.
    b) We recommend buying a professional system that has exceptional color balance like the new Saber line.

  • What devices can I control with H-A-R-P MIDI Controller?
You can control any device that operates on MIDI protocol. You can control DJ computer software such as Ableton Live or Traktor Pro. You can control laser effects in computer software like QuickShow. You can control DMX nightclub lighting. You can control pyhsical instruments like keybaords and drum machines. You can control virtual instruments and effects in a PC. If it has a MIDI input, you can control it with H-A-R-P!

  • Is it possible to play chords?
Yes! Each beam that you block produces a sound. The user himself/herself chooses which sounds he/she wants the H-A-R-P to play, depending on the device connected via MIDI cable to the Controller. If you block several beams at the same time you will hear the correct sounds playing all at the same time which means that you can play polyphonic music and chords.

  • If you block a beam does the sound change if you move your hand up and down?
No, the movements of your hands along the string path do not affect the sound or MIDI device. The H-A-R-P sends MIDI Note On/Off messages for each string that is blocked/unblocked.

  • What accessories do you suggest we use?
    a) We suggest you use white gloves for better light reflection.
    b) We recommend using double footswitch instead of a single footswitch because with double footswitch you can easily switch between MIDI banks as well as open and close your H-A-R-P stringset.
    c) If you want to connect your H-A-R-P to your PC (and you don’t own a sound card with MIDI input) we suggest you try the MIDI to USB converter cable.

  • Why do I need a mirror?
    a) A mirror is used so you don’t have to turn your laser projector upwards to get a vertical beam projection. Instead, you place the mirror in front of the projector’s opening at a 45 degrees angle. When laser projects horizontal beams, they will be reflected vertically by the mirror.
    b) If you are using a green laser you can use a regular mirror, but if you are using an RGB laser projector then we suggest you order our professional front-coated Laser Bounce Mirror to avoid color diffraction.
    c) We offer a special mirror that is precisely made, with its dimensions, for laser harp usage. Apart from the fact that it has got different dimensions (25x7cm), this mirror also has a special stand that can adjust its height from 0 to 30cm. Laser power dictates the size of the device, so some lasers with greater power come in bigger dimensions which means that the mirror has to be placed on a greater height as well.

  • Can you operate H-A-R-P while on-stage surrounded by other show lighting and laser projectors?
Yes you can. The sensor unit is programmed in such a way that it detects only the blocked light of the laser projector that the Controller is connected to.
